A global celebration of space science and exploration
World Space Week (WSW) is a global celebration of space science, technology, exploration, and their contributions to the advancement of humanity. Observed annually from October 4 to 10, World Space Week provides an opportunity for people around the world to discover the importance of space and its growing role in our everyday lives.
Two milestones, one Space Age
Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, World Space Week commemorates two significant milestones in the history of space exploration. On October 4, 1957, Sputnik 1 became the first human-made satellite to orbit Earth, marking the beginning of the Space Age. On October 10, 1967, the Outer Space Treaty entered into force, establishing fundamental principles for the peaceful exploration and use of outer space.
Every year since, the week between these two dates has become a shared, worldwide occasion to look up - and to ask what space means for life here on Earth.
Since its inception, WSW has grown into a global movement
Space agencies, educational institutions, research organisations, industry and communities participate through a wide range of activities that promote awareness, education, innovation and interest in space.
For SUPARCO, a chance to engage the nation
For SUPARCO, World Space Week is an opportunity to engage the nation in the exploration of space and highlight the importance of space science and technology in Pakistan's socio-economic development. It provides a platform to inspire young minds, encourage interest in STEM education, promote scientific curiosity, and create greater awareness of how space-based technologies contribute to areas such as:
World Space Week also reflects the spirit of international cooperation that continues to shape humanity's journey into space. It encourages us to look beyond our planet, appreciate the achievements of space science and technology, and inspire the next generation to contribute to the future of space exploration.
Be part of a more space-aware Pakistan
SUPARCO invites students, educators, researchers, professionals, and space enthusiasts across Pakistan to join the World Space Week celebrations and be part of our journey towards a more space-aware, innovative, and technologically advanced Pakistan.
